I think the funny part is when the one person claims that the presence of male versions of the advertisement doesn't mean that the one about women isn't sexist.

[–]DropkickMorgan[S] 33 points34 points35 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

This thing which treats men and women in exactly the same way is sexist!

[–]sillymod 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think they need to expand their vocabulary of arguments.

They are perfectly within their rights to claim that the advertisement is unacceptable, and that they feel that sexual innuendo is not appropriate for advertisements. But to claim that it is somehow uniquely discriminatory against a single gender, when it treats both genders the same, is kind of ludicrous.

The same thing happened here a fortnight ago, as per my last post

Only kind of ludicrous?

[–]sillymod 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes. I reserve full ludocrity for views on issues that are actually important.

[–]Vandechoz 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Patriarchy Theory in a nutshell, really.

[–]tyciol 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But they are not treated the same way. The woman I is better covered by her sign. The man is more exposed.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And later someone says its from a 'misogynist' culture.

[–]tyciol 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I suppose it never occurred to these heterosexist feminists that the man is offering men to ride him and the woman bus wants a girl on top of her.

[–]Millenia0 28 points29 points30 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"How am I supposed to explain this to my children?" Oh fucking gee, I dunno. Maybe say that its a sign that says "You can ride me for 3$€£ all day" Because its a fucking bus and you can ride the bus, for 3 moneys.

meh.

How do I explain to my son that when the Bella Twins were all over Daniel Bryan for being a Vegan that it was a reference to chicks with a fetish for virgin guys? Especially since I never picked upon it until someone pointed it out years later.

[–]DJMorgan7125 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Obviously, the one with the woman is sexist and the one with the man is patriarchy backfiring.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dear woman feminist, i would appreciate you shutting your fucking pie hole in regards to being offended for me as a man. You are a woman therefore have no ability to understand in any way ever, how it is to be a man or what we find to be sexist. You do not get to define who i am or how i am allowed to view the world. Quit womansplaining to me you shitlady feminist. ~ maletears. #triggered, #offendbyeverything, #bitchdatesmanginas

A quote from Dr Heather Brunskell-Evans, senior research fellow at the University of Leicester and spokeswoman for Resist Porn Culture??? If ever there were proof that not all research is serious.

If they want to attract a younger audience maybe they should put up pictures of overdressed elephantkin bitching about things that don't matter.

[–]Millenia0 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh man, just imagine a world created from feminists and tumblr just pointing at things and yelling "This doesnt include group X, make it include group X or your a Xphobe" At EVERYTHING.

"Adults consenting to be photographed half naked promotes rape culture...somehow."

[–]tyciol 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The ads are indeed sexist.

The male version exposed.his nipples while the female version received more coverage of cleavage up to clavicles to avoid offense. It tells men that our erogenous zones do not matter. That they are a scar on a breast unfit to suckle. Unable to nurture life, like the important female chest obscured from view like a deity we peons are unworthy to gaze upon lest we corrupt it or be destroyed by it.

Male version was also muscular which would make men with less muss feel inadequate and depressed. Plus man had hairless chest making unshaven men feel like dirty beasts.

Male version lectures that we ought to be strong in case we need to push threats way from women or ourselves. But the thin female tells women they owe no such obligation to society. That they do not have to protect others and that others owe them protection.

I could almost smell the righteous indignation from here. Human sexuality being used to actually attract people's attention and sell a relatively mundane product?

Say it ain't so!

[–]CatManDontDo 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow I just thought it was clever advertising. Who knew the people in Cardiff were such suqares.

[+][deleted] -9 points-8 points-7 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

It is a weak but predictable response from feminists but the do have a point. This kind of objectification goes on too much and on buses? Yong kids ride on those. They advertisers should ave put much more thought into this. I know, Whiny feminists - blah blah. but they have a point this time.

[–]DropkickMorgan[S] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Not when they also had men in the advertisements.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

equal sexism is still sexism. It was wrong to put those images on buses. Not horribly wrong as the feminists like to exaggerate it into, but not good either.

[–]DropkickMorgan[S] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

equal sexism

Oxymoron right there.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

no it isn't.

[–]Grumpchkin 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sexism is when something or someone gets treated unequally due to their gender.

If both genders are equally objectified its not sexism, just shitty adverts.

[–]tyciol 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You are mixing up sexism with sexual imagery.

Since either gender can top or bottom, ride or be ridden, there is nothing sexist about both male and female models being used.

For all the talk of feminists standing up for marginalized groups, I see no reference to an issue less fantastic: racism due to both models being white.

Is it against other races for not including them? Or against whites by portraying them as slutty for charging so little for sex for such a long period of time, taking all manner of comers and allowing possibly dozens to enter you simultaneously? People who only leave when you have taken them as far as they wish to go?

Not to mention that man-spreading could make it more congested in the aisles leading some to remain standing on top of you while being inside you.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

sexism isn't just about discrimination.

[–]tyciol 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I thought it was.

What else is it about which you think is a present foible in this situation?

If members of both genders are making the same statements.in similar States of undress a difference.must be identified for the statement to become about the sex.of either person.

The same would apply if 2 posters had people of.different races. You first need to prove the ad is doing something unique.in response to the criterion.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

sexism is about thinking of a gender in prejudicial ways or ignorance of a gender or generalizations about a gender in exactly the same way racism is expressed, but for a race instead of a gender. the principle is the same and sexism is expressed in many ways.

[–]tyciol -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You still have not explained.how the bus ad is prejudicial.
