Who's being objectified now? The Lulu app let's women rate and tag men for other women to see. What if there was an app for men to rate women?

To me this is the equivalent of putting a black man in front of the camera and being in awe over how articulate and educated and well spoken he sounds.

I just got banned from r/feminism for asking a question. I tried again in r/askfeminists, a place I'd never posted before, and found out they had banned me before I got the chance to post it there.

I stopped giving a shit about Lulu a long time ago, but decided to read up on it since it's still around. Apparently a lot of women aren't pleased with it. Not only is it full of shit, but it can really screw you over.

Here's a review from the app.

If you allow this app to access your contacts, it will create a public profile for EVERY MALE PERSON whose number you have. Everyone. Your 70 year old father. Your former boss. Your 14 year old little cousisns. Your live-in boyfriend. Everyone.

There was no warning prior to this happening. It just happened. Thanks, lulu! It's really dishonest to get information for guys' profiles this way. Hope my grandpa gets good reviews! Oh wait, he's been married for 60 years and is in a nursing home.

Their behavior is dishonest, sure - but their users are just as awful.

[–]Mitschu 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I dunno, to me this sounds like joining the KKK because they promise to deal with all the blacks you don't like, and then acting affronted when they start lynching your black friends too.

I mean, you're signing up to be part of a group that is an outlet for you to judge, objectify, and dehumanize men. But OMG, they think your grandpa counts as one of those men? You're cool with everything else, but that's going too far? Only when it gets personal?

[–]xynomaster 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait, so they don't even restrict it to people over 18?

The fuck? Is this even legal?

Yeah it's weird, when I went to post this I noticed the link had been posted once a year ago...but I found out about it while sitting on the john with this month's Men's Health, they did an article on it, so who knows.

I am more then a little suprised tha RoTK has not made one of these yet. Then again that would mean helping men generally, rather then the tiny handful who kowtow to the throne of rosh.

Return of The King?

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think that is the page Roosh V runs yeah.

Like I said, totally useless for anything practical.

[–]TKfromCLE 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

You mean like Hot or Not? Because there are plenty of knockoffs that would let you rate someone based on their looks. Pretty sure there's a hot or not app now.

[–]MonkeyCB 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hot or not didn't use peoples real information. You might see a picture of someone but not their name, history, etc.

This same thing did happen a few years ago. And you can see what people think of this when a man does it.

[–]SuperDadMan[S] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

No this is more than that. The women mark men with things like #scary, #mommasboy, #lame, #goodinbed, etc.

[–]TKfromCLE 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Well, defamation of character can be contested.

[–]newprofile15 -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Lol good luck suing someone for calling you a mommas boy or lame.

[–]TKfromCLE 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Way to miss the point, dumb fuck.

[–]newprofile15 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just tired of all the confusion and misinformation I see about defamation law.

[–]RapeMe_MyFriend 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wasn't #thepurge on twitter less than a month ago? When men uploaded pictures of their exes with similar degrading hashtags? These are just cases of people being assholes to each other.

[–]SuperDadMan[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think I saw anything about that. I can say that apparently when a girl signs up for Lulu, it instantly makes a profile for every man in her contacts list...regardless of whether it's her father or 12 year old son or brother, whatever. I know men do it too, I mean, locker room talk is to be expected from both sexes...and I think that's pretty normal. But it's one thing to talk about it with your friends, and another to literally tag a man based on your (possibly incorrect) perceptions for everyone to see.

[–]supsluts 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe the uggos in both sexes could grow up and quit trying to make everyone else as miserable as they are?

[–]StandsInRefuse 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I still can't understand how this app doesn't breach data protection.

[–]Wargame4life 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the entire concept is a complete load of shit, anyone with even half a brain can tell you that in this context people with bad reviews are clearly desirable, as after all if you met the girl of your dreams and she moved on, would you want to "review her" so that men everywhere are queuing up to date her, no you'd be far more likely to send a bad review so she would come back. assuming you are the sort of massive loser who would ever consider reviewing someone in the first place (not me)

the whole thing is just embarassingly cringe worthy for all involved other than those being reviewed (since they have no active part in it)

those who write it and those who use it, are self declared losers.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Is that what lulu is? They sent me an email a few weeks ago, something about "register to keep your rating.". I thought it was spam and deleted it.

[–]ukreview 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

sounds like a data protection to me.

[–]soalone34 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If I remember correctly Mark Zuckerburg made a female version of this and it eventually became Facebook. I think he was suspended from school for it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

any time a question involves an app, ask yourself: is there money in this? because that is why people make apps.

men, overwhelmingly, don't care about this kind of shit.

women are way more likely than men to think "well, they're the same sex as me, so I can take them on their word." frankly, no one should take anyone on their word, so I object to the app on the basis of extremely bad epistemology. but my objection means horseshit, because unless everyone instantly realizes how unreliable this information is, they're not going to change their cognitive-behavioral habits.

even if there WAS a lulu where men rated women, would men care? hell no. men are going to think "I'm a better judge of her than some other dude is, fuck this app" OR they're going to think "this guy is biased and probably got rejected or something"
