If the ladies are so confident that they need to stray so far and so wide, shouldn't the father(?) have equal confidence that he hasn't been taken for a ride?

I'd say this is mostly due to the nature of the dating game ( and women taking advantage of it ). Men have to spend effort, money, time and psyche into wooing a woman. He has to do all the legwork that leads up to a date and has to keep the date going successfully. She is there to judge him and see if he is good enough. Because of the effort required most men settle down with the first woman that accepts them. For women it's different, even if they are not looking they get approached by men. This means even in a relationship they always have a plan B. When things are not working out perfectly or when there is an argument she can easily retreat to her plan B whom accepts her with open arms due to her manipulative nature. This is something I have seen happen multiple times: woman breaks up and a day later she is with a new man. This makes cheating a viable option of emotional warfare for women, emotional warfare feminists ironically call "strong and independent".

I'm pretty sure downsides also include becoming less attractive as candidates for long term relationships, higher resistance to Oxytocin (bonding chemical), etc. Sure there's the obvious consequences, but I don't think I've ever seen people talk about the not so obvious side effects.

As horrible as this article's support for this kind of behaviour is, I have to assume this survey isn't accurate or representative. Magazine surveys are almost always riddled with methodological problems and bad sampling is usually the biggest one. I would guess this was probably a voluntary survey posted on their site. This kind of sampling always leads to an over-abundance of rarified groups. In this case, unfaithful women.

There are proper and somewhat regularly conducted studies on this exact thing and most put the figure at about 25% for both men and women and the 18-25 crowd has always been over-represented.

All that said, I fucking hate the trend of excusing cheating when women are doing it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting many partners, but there is something wrong with breaching the parameters of a commitment made voluntarily. If women want to fuck the whole town, great, go nuts, but there is no justification for cheating on a partner if that's not what you agreed to. It's a free country, if you don't want to be in said relationship, don't be in it.

I guess it's only a problem if it is something that upsets women. Things like being 'fuck-zoned', or being refused marriage are things that could be upsetting. The ironic thing here is that the root of a lot of domestic violence from men is the fear of being cheated on.

I'm still hoping that this is bullshit. That doesn't seem like a credible source, and 50% have cheated sounds like it could be bullshit on par with 25% being raped.

I'm guessing that the study in question was utter shit in its design. Probably a terrible selection bias.

I honestly think on this issue its truly 50/50. Yes women make way more excuses about it but that is rather irrelevant, both sexes on this one are equally shitty.
