To be honest, I feel like this is describing radfems. Just reverse the genders.

The easiest strawman to construct is the one you've lived for years.

Our of curiosity, I looked up MRA on UD. Not only are most of the definitions like that, they're mostly written by the same person

Whoever they are, their hobby appears to be logging on to UD and creating yet another misandric definition for something gender related... on top of the 10 or 12 they've already made for the same word.

Keep in mind that UD definitions are screened by a select number of the userbase. Given that several gamergate definitions have been rejected (and all of these have passed) I'm beginning to suspect the place has some cancer.

Considering that urban dictionary users are mostly 12 or so, I wouldn't be worried, let they throw their childish tantrums, you'll never be revolutionary if you pay attention to the cries of reactionaries.

Urban Dictionary? That'll show MRA's. We can make a heavily brigadable website show that they are just simpletons!

[–]Sanguifer 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Looking for accuracy on the Urban Dictionary is like hitting Encyclopedia Dramatica for Your paper research.

And frankly, in this case, they did quite a good job - because that's pretty much what the term "MRA" is (wrongfully, ofc) associated with. Remember, a dictionary doesn't judge, it merely reports on the common use of a phrase.

yes that is true but i personlly find it intressting considering the person ho made this proberly thinks this way

[–]bbeard -3 points-2 points-1 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Your posts have a high rate of spelling errors. I find this to be distracting.

[–]theobonnevier[S] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

sorry english is not my primery language

[–]bbeard 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's not my primary language either, which is why it is even harder to find the closest correct interpretation of your posts. Nevertheless, I am not trying to criticize you personally - this is just something that I mentioned because it was affecting me. It would be a big help if you use some kind of auto-correct.

He means that it's interesting that there are people out there who think like this. That they need to shame another group of people to make themselves feel better.

[–]notnotnotfred 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

what, they don't like us?

[–]jewboyfresh 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because just like feminazis, there are a bunch of self-proclaimed MRAs who are unable to look at things from an objective point of view and just want another reason to hate women.

And just like with feminism, the crazy ones are the ones that get all the attention because rational thinkers are boring. There was recently a funny video my friend sent me, some cartoon about a feminazi and at the end there was big group of MRAs all dressed in neckbeard-garb yelling about how they want their foreskins back

Edit: Found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XARMbTEGVDk

yes that is true and the title perhaps should have be " how urban dictionary editor........"

[–]LegacyToaster 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Urban Dictionary is satire, we should be focusing on more pressing issues than the jokes made agains the MRM.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

[–]Ted8367 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That was from 2010. Typical imagery for those times.

Reading through the definitions we see an evolution. Rabid slanging didn't get the result they wanted, so eventually:

MRA

A "Men's Rights Activist". MRA groups campaign for the rights of straight white men, whom they argue are oppressed by modern society. They consider feminism to be a damaging movement which seeks to further the rights of women at the expense of men.

MRA groups fight against issues such as the proscriptive gender roles forced on men, with their emphasise on aggressive masculinity and lack of tolerance for emotion; disproportionately high suicide rates among men caused in part by these narrow gender roles; an assumption that women are too weak to assault and abuse men in relationships; a belief that male victims of rape do not deserve help because only weak, unmanly men get raped.

Ironically these issues are all caused by patriarchy, the very societal force which feminists are fighting against.

Feminist 1: So what exactly are the issues that MRAs are getting angry about?

Feminist 2: Well there's quite a range, but the ones I've heard most about are the narrow, limiting gender roles that men are being forced into, and the belief that men who are victims of domestic abuse don't deserve help because women are too weak to assault men and only weak, useless men get assaulted.

Feminist 1: So they're basically fighting against the injustices resulting from a gender binary that sees men as always tough and strong and women as always weak and helpless?

Feminist 2: Essentially, yes.

Feminist 1: But isn't that...

Feminist 2: ...exactly what we're fighting against too? Yes, exactly.

Feminist 1: So then what's their problem with feminism?

Feminist 2: Search me.

A different tack, but still crap.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's alright, its a new definition every time! Our haters can't seem to make their minds up.

[–]Faryshta 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

urban dictionary is meant to be offensive.

[–]Saerain 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It fucking shames me that this is effectively what I thought of MRAs some years ago.

Feminism does shit to you, man. It's been like breaking out of a religion.

[–]Lrellok 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am actually delighted by the fact that 1/3 of people down voted that definition. That is astounding progress.

[–]jewboyfresh -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TBH thats what I feel a big group of people on this sub believe

I like /r/Mensrights because it focuses on issues that men face but many people that comment on the posts are unable to look at things objectively and just look for a reason to jump on the women-hating train with generalizations and isolated cases. Granted these comments are usually never the top comments

Too many redpillers come here looking for another reason to hate women which gives MRA's the image of being male equivalents of feminazis

[–]wiseprogressivethink -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fucking humanists.
