No kidding. I get this often too.

"Babysittin', are you?"

"No actually I pay money to get to do this"

A lot of it stems from the single mothers who gave their ex husbands the ”privilege” of being a visitor to their own children every other weekend. As it stems from the amount of time a babysitter would have spent with a child. Clearly this has changed over the years as more dads have become more involved in their children's lives.

Where do I get that shirt? Nice to see some media attention to that issue. Tired of being told I am babysitting my kids.

I see your point, but as a person that has absolutely no fashion sense, I have to go to my wife before I leave the house to ask if what I'm wearing is acceptable. I find nothing wrong it.

[–]HugoWeaver 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm always having a go at fellow dads for saying "I'm babysitting my kids this weekend". No you fucking are not. My wife works nights, from 4PM until midnight so my whole day is usually

5AM, wake up, walk the dog

6:30AM, wake the kids, dress them for school. Give them brekky. Go to work

6PM, come home from work, pick the kids up from family day care

6PM - 8:30PM, look after the kids, feed and bathe them. Clean house, do laundry

12:30AM, wife comes home

My wife actually does nothing after dropping the kids off at school as they go from school to family day care after it. I'm the one that does all the chores, that raises them. If somebody said I was babysitting, I would go right up to them and punch them in the nose.

And then get a free break from Your chores while you sat in jail! Great plan.

Do you fight crime by night?

I work in a group home... Soooooo kinda!??

Works for me :)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't even see how somebody can say that to a father. I've never even heard it. The closest thing I've heard is "Oh, you got (stuck with) the kids today?" Maybe "You're watching the kids today?" I mean, some people use watching and baby-sitting interchangeably sometimes but watch just means to look after so it doesn't carry that connotation that "baby-sitting" does.

[–]billyjoedupree -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Now this is too funny.

The longest running argument my wife and I had was over me saying that I would babysit the kids while she did X after I got home from work. She would go apeshit that I dared to call it babysitting. My pov was, that's a baby; i'm sitting, ergo "babysitting". I see no problem with the fact that at that moment i am "babysitting", because as a father I am always parenting, it simply goes without saying. As the working part of the household, babysitting is an abnormal part of my parental duties, therefore it deserves a distinctive.

From the MRA point of view, this completely misses the target. The message is that the father is a parent but it gets lost in the specifics of the activity. Because of that, he's just confirmed himself as a babysitter.

Many times in life, more is said by less; especially if there is a T-shirt involved.

So a woman said some stupid shit.

This dude got butt hurt.

Then he made a sassy shirt.

Sounds like the child has two mommies. Here's an idea: be a real fucking Dad and teach your children to hunt.

[–]thisprofilenolongere 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh fuck off and go back to trolling.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I don't disagree with you totally but I think you're overlooking different points of view. One point of view is the point of view of a father wanting to do the best job possible. From this point of view, I think it's not unreasonable to do some equivalent of "being a real fucking Dad and teach your children to hunt."

That point of view is very accessible from subs like theredpill which focus on individual action and flourishing. The other point of view is the point of view of observing society from a third party perspective. This point of view is more consistent with the men's rights movement. From this point of view, the individual is less considered because any individual is statistically insignificant. From this point of view, it makes more sense to address the problem.

Though while that's probably one of fundamental differences between the two subs, the other being methodology, I agree that making a shirt is not especially interesting news or something I particularly care about.

I do my best to avoid the topic of Red Pill while not in that mosh pit. Its a certain crazy that is definitely an acquired taste. However now that you brought it up.

The Red Pill agrees with Mens Rights complety on the issue just not on the solution.

Is fatherhood undervalued? Yes. But this guy has subscribed to neo masculinity a feminized fatherhood. He is being a mother. A child needs two parents a father and a mother, not a mother and a ladyfather.

I do my best to avoid the topic of Red Pill while not in that mosh pit... However now that you brought it up.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a significant aspect of red pill philosophy is both the existence and recognition of a distinction between overt power/speech/meaning that references it explicitly and covert power/speech/meaning that carries the meaning but maintains plausible deniability. Typically TRP associates the former with men and the latter with women but I think it applies to your comment.

You gave undoubtedly TRP advice on fatherhood and you are possibly the single most recognizable figure of TRP. Plus TRP often says to give TRP advice but to not reference TRP, which is exactly what you just did. The plausible deniability's there, but TRP is covertly brought up and relevant.

Its a certain crazy that is definitely an acquired taste.

I'm not calling you crazy or using your TRP association to discredit you as others do. I didn't suggest that one of those points of view was more objective or inherently better than the other. I think it's good advice to just man up and teach your son to hunt and be a man. It's not only a valid point of view but one that's necessarily thrust onto every individual whether they choose to acknowledge it or not. They have to decide how to conduct themselves.

The Red Pill agrees with Mens Rights complety on the issue just not on the solution.

I don't think The Red Pill actually discusses a solution. There's a lot of talk on TRP about letting the world burn and the advice/theories seem to be discussing how to personally thrive in a destroyed world or at least how not to be brought down. Calling that a solution seems a little bit like moving the goal posts.

That's why I talked about it as two points of view on an issue and not as two contradictory ideas. It's kind of like how getting eaten by a crocodile is good from the croc's point of view because it gets nutrition, but bad from your point of view because you die painfully. Neither rules out the other and it's probably off to call one way to look at the issue objectively right or wrong but there are different points of view.

But this guy has subscribed to neo masculinity a feminized fatherhood. He is being a mother. A child needs two parents a father and a mother, not a mother and a ladyfather.

This part I completely agree with you on. It's difficult if not completely impossible to force someone into masculinity, which I suspect is why TRP doesn't advertise, but I absolutely can't stand the glorification of feminized men which is a bit too pervasive on this subreddit. However, you didn't say that. You used a bunch of locker room talk to vaguely hint at the idea without actually describing it in any nuanced way. I suspect that if you wrote it out in a way that serious people talk to each other, you'd have gotten better responses. Hell, even your comment here that I'm responding to got upvoted.

TRP is locker room talk and while it's a very serious endeavor for those who swallow the pill, it's not important for TRP to be taken seriously by society because ultimately you don't talk about fight club. Mensrights on the other hand has to be a bit more cautious with discourse because it is about getting taken seriously by society in order to make a change. We can't use the same dialect as people talking about "getting jacked as fuck and laying down serious pipe."

I would hope you stick around though. In many of your other comment you speak more seriously than you did here and if you did that, you'd likely be a significant help by bringing about that point of view and adding an important factor to the MRM.

I think u need to clarify what your position on being a farther and raising children is. Because how it sounds is that "if you raise children then your a women, or a ladyfarther". I as a male that is the primary care give to my daughter is more then capable to do " traditional mother" work, but also VERY capable of teaching my daughter how ride a quad or shoot a gun.
