it's funny because the alleged health benefits are extremely tiny and only exist in countries where bathing is extremely rare, and are present for both male and female circumcision. the clitoral hood is both biologically and genetically analogous to the foreskin. these structures are literally coded by the same genes, and are only differentiated due to sexually dimorphic SHh genes and hormonal differences. functionally they are exactly the same. removing the clitoral hood makes it harder for the clitoris to get infected in people who never fucking bathe. so what? most americans bathe several times a week, if not daily.

the argument that "it's normal and women like it more" could be applied to regions where FGM is standard, and we would still find it horrific. our approval of circumcision is directly analogous to the approval of FGM in other parts of the world. we find FGM atrocious, just like germans find circumcision atrocious. the bias in this thread is astounding. these are people who have never studied the issue at all. i'm circumcised but i've read about this extensively, and my opinion of circumcision changed. isn't that funny... you read about something, then you know more about it, and then you change your mind. foreign concept to many people.

if we are going to approve of circumcision in first-world countries because it's cleaner for people who can't take showers regularly, reduces the risk of HIV for people who live in third-world countries, and because it's "normal" and "more aesthetically pleasing" then we can't condemn FGM. the arguments are literally the same. the research shows that every "benefit" carried by circumcision is exactly the same for FGM. so the only argument left is that circumcision is fine because we're used to it, and FGM is not fine because we're not used to it. it's incredibly immoral.

FGM and circumcision are, in every way, the same. the arguments supporting them are the same. the origins of FGM and circumcision are both equally religious. and both of them are equally wrong. i don't care how many morons get their foreskin caught in a zipper. i've had both my glans and my scrotum stuck in a zipper, who gives a shit? i wouldn't cut off my arm just because it's more likely to get stuck in a meat grinder than a stump on my shoulder. and before you say "you need your arm more than your foreskin," bullshit. the foreskin is necessary for protecting both the glans and the vaginal wall of your sexual partner from friction. in the case of the glans, friction causes desensitization over the years, which is why circumcised men are 5 times more likely to have erectile dysfunction than intact men. in the case of sex, the friction causes pain, discomfort, irritation, and higher risk of infection, particularly if you have a big dick or the woman has a small vagina. i can personally attest to the pain it causes petite women, and studies have shown exactly the same thing. finally, people who say "well women prefer circumcised men, and i don't want my son to not get laid," bullshit! the only studies done on this question have shown that women who have had sex with both types of men are 4 times more likely to prefer intact penises to circumcised penises. this is all because the foreskin slides back and forth along the glans, making it a kind of natural lubricant.

there is no argument for circumcision that can't also be used to support FGM... and we would never permit FGM, rightly so. because it is a violent action. because it cannot be consented to. because it is cruel. because it is disfiguring. all i am asking is that we suspend our cultural biases and view our own culture under the same objective lens under which we view other cultures. if FGM is objectively wrong, (not just wrong because of xenophobia) then so is circumcision.

fun fact: circumcision is banned in germany, for the same reasons FGM is banned in israel.

There are all kinds of pro- and anti- and even more ambivalent circumcision opinions out there. The issue with it is consent. You can't do that to an infant who has no say in the matter. Personally, I'm circimcised. I don't think it's a big deal. If I weren't I would likely get it done as an adult. But I would never do it to my son, because it's his penis and not mine. You can't make that kind of permanent and irreparabale decision for someone else with them having any kind of input

This is the post that made me unsub from /r/mensrights. I once wrote a ten page paper on the MRA movement and how meaningful it was in our current society. All I see now is a bunch of men whining about really trivial shit. That comment was about him being okay with how he is and accepting it. Sometimes you guys can be as petty as the people you hate and that's sad to me because this sub really used to be something.
