Dear Honey Badgers,

I have a feminist friend. I didn't recognize her as a feminist during college, mainly because I didn't realize that there was a separate narrative. This feminist eventually pushed me into educating myself, and therefore, finding my way to Men's Rights, Karen, r/Mensrights, and other MRA places.

Recently, there was a facebook exchange about one feminist overhearing two girls complaining about how feminism is just about spewing hate. Internally, I cheered. Then the feminist that pushed me into the rabbit hole commented with an appeal to dictionary (no one challenged, me because I was late to the conversation), then again after I posted this statement (which I'm posting because I think it's not too inflammatory):

To correct some misconceptions: The MRA doesn't hate women. There are several very prominent women in the movement, including Karen Straughan (Girl Writes What), Alison Tieman (TyphonBlue), Kristal Garcia (Kristal Garcia), (AlyssMajere), and (HoneyBadgerRadio), all of which are either individuals (or Youtube channels) run by women, sympathetic to men's rights. Secondly, PUAs, Anti-PUAs, Red Pillers and MRAs aren't the same. PUAs or Pick-Up Artists, are concerned with abusing the system to 'get' as many women as they want. Anti-PUAs are concerned (almost) exclusively with telling them to fuck off. Red Pillers believe that the system is fucked and that only personal and self improvement will bring significant change to a man. MRAs or Men's Rights Activists, believe that men have rights that need defending and that feminism isn't doing enough or nothing at all to help them. Hope that helps!

Her response was that MRAs seem misogynistic and whiny while missing the point (which was that feminism focuses on messed up gender roles and helps women's healthcare, education, safety and work) and that she's tired of apologizing because of messed up custody hearings and then outlining her steps she takes to avoid rape.

I had a previous discussion with her (the one that showed me this path) and countered with statistics where she shamed me into not responding; so I know bringing up stats won't work. Is there anything I can do to show her the light? She's been a great friend to me, and we're currently working on a 5-month long prank on some buddies together, but I'm not sure if I even want to see her again if this is what she thinks.

I've read a lot about the possible psychology of male feminists, but I'd like to know, what, in your opinion, is wrong psychologically with female feminists? Why is it so common, and what's so appealing about it to certain types, and, crucially, what makes you different?

Not really a question for the radio channel, but did you catch the #jacobinghazi meltdown on twitter? Apparently, if you receive anonymous threats you have a right to misrepresent all who remotely disagree with you, and label them rape apologists when they try to defend themselves.

It's gross abuse of the victim card of course, but the targeted people have no way to talk about that, much less defend against it. Got to have pity with them. Tumblr feminism seems to be leaking into academia.

Do you predict that men's rights will become one of the defining conversations of the 21st century, much like women's rights were in the 20th century? Or do you think the public will continue to ignore men's issues, allowing feminist ideology to gain an ever-tighter grip on the cultural zeitgeist?
