Even the act of helping others in need for no tangible gain is inherently selfish, because the only reason for doing so is the release of happy chemicals. Sometimes it may even be out of guilt to alleviate negative emotions. Self preservation if you are starving you will not give up your food. Humans are motivated by several compounds that are released by the brain in response to stimulus. This is to create feedback loops that regulate the body and allow you to do things not only for survival but also for social advancement.

Now apply that to relationships. The entire notion of genuine love is complete bullshit. Your value is determined by many factors, but there are none that will see you through until death with a single person. Even motherly love has its limits. Your fave and who you are is your value. Even being from a certain family can give you value in social context.

So yes; you can be loved, but only if you have value. Society only appreciates you for what you provide, whether it’s a pussy or strong leadership. Or money. Money isn’t even real, it’s just how much leverage you have over others. Before money it was land ownership. Before that it was fundamental knowledge and tribe leader status.

Even the lowest members of society might be taken care of, but only because people would feel guilty for not helping them. And some people feel the intrinsic need to help others which is still a good thing but it’s not just purely to be “good”, if there was no reward chemical there would be no help. You must understand this to have a logical view of how the world works and the web of human social grouping.
