I really think it's past time you guys retired this overly dramatic analogy.

There's two big things wrong with it. One is that because she can do without dating, there is no effective difference between the "low quality food" and no food. She won't eat either way.

The other is "what is the purpose of food?" We might enjoy it, but the essential reason we need it is to survive. "What is the purpose of dating?" This varies a bit from person to person, but it's ultimately something like personal fulfillment. So an option that doesn't offer that fulfillment isn't low quality food, it's food with zero nutritional value—even if you eat it, you will still die.

Both of these points lead to the same conclusion: an option that's no good is no option.

Edit: all of this is secondary to my real objection to this post however, which is that her problem is as valid TO HER and yours may be to you. The fact that someone else on reddit has it worse than her doesn't change her experience of her life. So she has every right to post about it and the line of criticism she gets in a totally other subreddit for doing so is just petty.

I know the shit that goes on in the world, thats why its infuriating that some people want to make the somewhat arguably best places worse

Sigh, i knew you had to insist that cannibalism is ok because for the cannibals its ok - read my fucking edit

One thing i have to note: as civilisations grow and advance it is the norm for cannibalism to fade and stop completely - there is no large society or culture in human history we know of that practices or practiced cannibalism

This means one thing: as societies expand, these traditions slowly fade, getting replaced by more nuanced practices

We also need to keep in mind that cannibalism is a health risk, as it can spread diseases, especially if practiced in a ritualistic manner, something natives in new guinea have to deal with.

I also want to ask you one thing: can you give me one reason for why cannibalism is ok? Other than saying "morality is completely subjective" because so far, ive heard nothing.

I can be arrogant if you want. If you have nothing to counter than questioning my intelligence - something which wouldve prohibited me from having this argument in the first place - then i can return that favor and question yours - because you have nothing other than claiming every one of our moral decisions is based on the society we live in - something that you could easily just have copied and edited from a website or book that you thought sounded smart

Truth me told, most of our moralities are completely based on the society we grow up

Theres more to it though. You see parallels throughout the world. Where are the large cannibalistic societies? Why do we see so many societies today decree slavery - atleast morally, corporate slavery is a whole nother topic - ?

Its much more complex than just screaming "human nature"

Thats why its so fun to argue about these topics

Go ahead and call me arrogant, haughty, narcissistic, whatever

I really couldnt care less from a guy who so far couldnt defend their claim.
