He's not completely wrong, women earn less because they don't work as much. They work less hours, take more days off, choose lower paying jobs, and take more time with their kids.

Non-feminist woman here. Just some 2 cents on why this bothers me.

First of all, like what this guy said, I do believe that I will be happier being a stay at home mom, and I look forward to raising proper adults one day. Homemaking gives me joy. Being around children gives me joy. In my 20s, I had dreams for a career, but the older I got, the less happy I became over the thought that I might not be able to be married and have my own family if I continue to chase after those career goals. I am engaged now to a wonderful man who I know will be a good husband and father to our future kids, and I am absolutely happy with the role that I have as his greatest supporter in life.

However, this doesn't mean that I would not work if one day, we're gonna be financially in trouble. If that is to happen, I know it would make me terribly sad to be away from our children and to know that there's no one at home to run the household because both mom and dad would be away at work. It would kill me to think of leaving my children to fend for themselves especially during their most formative childhood years.

And what if my husband dies and I have to work to provide for my family?

As a woman (even as a non-feminist), I find that what is lacking in the anti-feminist movement is compassion toward women who have no choice but to also take up the role of a provider because of the absence of a father at home.

Also, while this guy is hammering on the fact that men earn more because they actually want to stay late at work (and having the pride of being the sole breadwinner for the household), he forgot that often, women are left to be the sole caregiver at home. As a child from among 5 other siblings who had a semi-absent father when we were kids, I saw how difficult it was for my mom to care for all of us without him.

The reason why I struggled with the idea of marriage in the past was because I thought that if I married, I had to give up my dreams for a career and just be a stay at home mom with unruly children to take care of while my husband jets off to do whatever he wanted. There was a time that my father was gone to the Philippines for a month for a business venture and left me and my mom without any money to buy food. My mom had no choice but to feed us rice and soy sauce because she didn't have any money for groceries. Perhaps this was the event that caused me to be somewhat of a feminist when I was in my 20s. I saw how depressed my mom was of our situation and as a child, I told myself that I will never be like her. My dad was negligent towards his family even though he thought that being gone for a month would help us financially (no, it didn’t. My dad was involved in a Ponzi scheme and he’s still trapped in it today).

The present mom/absent father stint creates feminists. I became a victim of that.

Let's not take too much pride in working too much because men can and women can't. Like what someone said in the comments, overworking is a toxic US culture. Yes, as women, we need men not just to provide financially for us, but to care for the family with us. Children need both mom and dad so they can grow as healthy adults.

I don't know if I'm making any sense or I'm just venting or rambling. Point is, if you want women on your side, have a little bit of compassion. Help us believe that homemaking won't be too lonely of a task because you're gonna choose to have a 16 hour work day just because you can and we can't.

Don’t make daughters feminists by being absent from their lives. As a dad, you need to help them see their value as women. The best that you can do is help them want to become devoted wives and mothers one day by caring for your wives. If they see a sick and tired mom, why would they want to be one?

I hate how he makes his arguments. I mean I guess I would agree that woman are probably in general less ambitious (getting a high paying career), but that’s on a population level. A specific individual can be very different than the average of it’s group. Saying to that woman on television that she would be more happy at home is extremely stupid and insulting. There are more than enough woman who like working and are very ambitious. Just like there are more than enough men who like being a stay at home dad.

And is the culture of staying late at work actually a good thing? Yeah women earn less on average, but they are also happier on average. I would say most people shouldn’t overwork every day.

This is just another stupid conservative. He’s just as stupid as someone claiming all woman should work. The truth is in the middle ground.
