Best 50/50 custody schedule.

I have a 6yo and we do 3.5 / 3.5 days per week.

It allows to have some regularity in the schedule. As in, I can have language lessons on Thursday evening, because every week I'm free Thursday evening.

But I think we'll move to 1 week / 1 week by the time our kid is the same age as your. Just because an older kid has more stuff so it's more annoying to move, and can tolerate the absense of one of the parents more easily.

9yo is old enough for week-on/week-off. I greatly preferred when we were doing that over the 2/2/5/5 in our decree but since the ex wanted to go back for her own purposes (not the children's) we had to go back to what was on paper. The fewer transitions, the better IMO.

We swap every two weeks, 6yo,6yo and 5yo. It seems to work well, the kids have the chance to settle at each house.

When my 3 kids were young (oldest in 4th grade-now in 12th) we tried to go 2 nights at a time. But it was hard to figure out homework imo bc I was always doing the homework and projects with them and she literally did nothing. This was the case even when we were married. After bringing it up and her failing to step it up, I proposed we switch to a week at a time, switching on Sundays. It was only then that she started to figure out that she needs to do homework and projects. This has lessened the constant back and forth for the kids as well, which I think is healthier for them

I have toddlers (4 and 5) on a 2-2-3-2-2-3 schedule. Sometimes even the 5 year old thinks it is too much changing back and forth.

Around 8 or 9 is when I'd start determining if 5-5-2-2 or just go week on week off.

Also, I've read that it helps (mentally) if they don't have to worry about remembering anything other then phone and wallet (tablet, Nintendo, backup shoes, etc).

My kids don't have the same toys between houses, but I'm not sure what that looks like at 9. They have scooters at my place and at hers but not exact duplicates.
