Unfortunately, yes. Transcripts are cheap to create (like $200 per day). I think where they make their money is re-creating testimony. Once, I asked how much it would cost to have something my ex said in court written out. I forget the amount, but I was shocked. It was explained to me that re-creating testimony is very labor intensive; it's apparently not easy to just pick out a single sentence from hours of testimony.

I guess it boils down to how much you really need them. In the end, I declined to pay. Kinda made me wonder why they were taken at all. No wonder depositions are done in front of a camera.

Written transcripts can be costly if it was a long hearing but if only a few minutes I would not think it would be huge. Was there a taping going on? If so getting a copy of the tape is not too expensive.
