You can get 100% of your own benefits of 50% of what her amount is. You pick which one is higher. Your choice will not affect how much she receives for herself

I don’t think you fully understand how SS retirement benefits work.

You can file for whoever has the higher credits.

It doesn’t affect the other’s amount received. If she makes/made more money than you because you didn’t work much or earn much, then sure. Go right ahead.

My ex wife will file on mine. It won’t affect how much I can collect.

What's your divorce decree say? Does it say you get xx% of her SS benefits, etc. (or something of the like)?

As an example, my divorce decree says that I (and my ex) are entitled to each other's pension following the XYZ formula set forth in XYX ruling in my state. So - I (and she) have to contact the plan administrator to obtain.

Just trying to point out - 1) Find out what your divorce says. 2) If it says you get XYZ you then get to figure out how to collect on that. It's not too complex, but isn't simple either.

You don't get to go after what she's paid when she files. You can file for your own social security using her income as a basis if it's higher. If your income is higher then you would want to file under yours.
