I moved out three weeks ago and have rented a small house in a great neighborhood.
After years, I finally pulled the plug and frankly, it felt great. I know I have a long way to go and that there's gonna be shit along the way, but I am calmer, more relaxed, and my blood pressure is working it's way down to where it should be.
I know they say you should not move out, but that's what I did. I did discuss it with lawyer first, and in my case it doesn't make any real difference. I'm willing to give her the house, paid off. She'll get half my pension which I'm already collecting. She works. I do not want her asking the kids for money or someone saying I left her nearly destitute. For where we live, that's more than enough to live a comfortable lifestyle. If she fucks it up, which she might...then it's on her. If she succeeds, then that's fine...maybe she'll marry some schmow and I'll start getting all my pension.
I'm 55 and, I look it--bald with a belly. But mentally I'm starting to pull off some of the layers I built up during 30some years of marriage and I'm having moments where I mentally feel like I did before we got married. I have 0 interest in another relationship. The cat and I are getting along just fine...he doesn't demand much from me other than food. Right now that's the right level of needy for me.
