Tomorrow I'm looking at a house to rent that looks like it will fit my short-term needs. I have all the household items I care about in storage (moved while she was at work--the furniture she can have it all). I have opened separate checking and other accounts and that's where my check and other deposits go. The joint account stayed open with minimal money in it so as not to raise suspicion. I've talked to a lawyer and gotten advice and a worse case and worse that worse case scenario financially and otherwise.

Kids are grown. I worry how they'll react, but they are adults. I am 54 married 31 years. We were never a real good match to be honest, have grown apart, have different goals now, etc. Her financial habits have been a source of stress the entire time and my blood pressure and health can't stand it any more. Arguments about money have worn me down. There are other issues I wont' go into, but I've thought about this long and hard and I have decided there's no way on this planet I can live with her when we are both retired.

All I have to do after looking at house is sign lease and tell her it's time to part ways. Signing probably won't be a problem. Telling her it's time to part ways probably will be.

Wish me luck. Or if there's something I've forgotten, tell me.
