If you shelf the job your wife can always take you back to court. But if you stay tight lipped you and secretly change jobs you might be able to get away with it. Until you start spending money and make it obvious that you are better off. She will want a piece.

You should absolutely try to defer any enrichment until later. Is it possible you could work for the new employer with a reduced salary, but with something like stock options? I'm just trying to think out-of-the-box here. Accept stock options that don't mature until a year or two from now as part of your compensation. That way, you're still "poor" on paper; the options are still immature. Or ask for a lower salary up-front, but a big bonus on the back-end after one year? Something like that?

Accept it after you file the affidavit, and just to be safe defer the start date.

But affidavits are a one in done type of thing, they might ask for new paystubs, but once you have cleared the legal requirements, then they are not going to have you do it a second time.

In Illinois, best practices is once in the beginning and then once before prove-up. Perhaps once or twice in the middle if it's really long. You might want to ask your lawyer whether you're under a continuing duty to disclose financial changes, as opposed to only being obligated to fill out a financial disclosure form upon order of the court or request from the other side.
