It depends on your phone I used an app in the past called iCall used to work fine for recording but recently you have to give accessibility permissions on Android.

Smart to record! Wish I had! It would have saved me 70k and probably would have had custody if I had recorded at the right time.

I read somewhere not to use voice activated recorders because if you were to use them in court they can accuse you of manipulating the audio. So keep it on all the time.

All the Olympus and Sony models work pretty well. Keep AAA batteries on hand and get a larger micro SD so the recorder can store a lot in case she makes claims going back a few days. Record with higher compression so that you can store more, we're not that worried about high quality audio here.

Don't run your digital audio recorder on voice activated mode. The silence can be just as important as the sound. She calls the cops and claims that at 6PM you screamed at her and threw her up against the wall - and you play the recorder for the cops when they show up that shows peace and quiet occurring at 6pm. You're saved from the black and white taxi ride, and likely get a police report indicating she's a lying false accuser which can be of great benefit in court.

Not voice recorded but I use an app on my Apple Watch. I record all of our interactions from before they begin and several minutes after they end. I also have a journal where I document our interactions in conjunction with the recordings. I hope never to have to use them
