My wife and I have been together 23 years and married for 20. We were high school sweethearts and she honestly is my best friend. We spend the first 8 years of our marriage in the Army on active duty. It was a choice I made after having our first child at 19 so I could provide a steady income to support her and our child. Zero regrets as I continued my service for another 13 years in the National Guard. Now here comes the hard part, about 10 years ago while I was going through my bachelors program I was also dealing with a porn addiction that quickly spiraled into a sex addiction which ultimately lead to an affair. On top of that I was in incredible denial that I was suffering from PTSD from my 2 Iraq deployments. Her and I decided to try to work through it and stay together. Looking back that was probably a mistake, we should have separated. Fast forward to today we have 3 kids (21, 18, 9) and we are both miserable and fight constantly. I feel like we love each other but are not in love with each other. That spark is gone and I am not sure it’ll ever come back. She has mentioned divorce multiple times in the last couple years. This is where I am stuck, I don’t know where to go from here. I cannot imagine my life without her and my kids all together. I don’t know if that is just me clinging on to the past and being afraid of the future. If anyone has gone through the same or similar situation I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to read through this.
