I felt that I needed support with my wife leaving me. I admit I've not been maintaining my friendships since my marriage. My wife demanded so much time and attention that I didn't have any time to see my friends. This guy, I've known since middle school, for over 15 years. Since we got married I saw him maybe 2 times a year.
I called him and when he picked up I got all emotional. I was fine before I just did groceries. All I could say is man I need to tell you something and it's hard to say. He said that it didn't sound good. He asked to tell him. I said that my wife and I are separating. I kind of crackled up. He asked where I was. He said I'm home in half an hour. Come here and we'll talk.
I dropped my son at my parents. I went and we walked...a lot. I told him everything. How my wife was, how I carried everything, how messed up she treated me and how I'm in a burnout. How I put myself on fire to keep her warm only for her to leave me when I was finally burning up.
He met my wife a few times and he basically understood from the limited interactions. He told me he indeed saw her as irresponsible and emotionally immature. He always doubted if she was good for me. He just didn't know how to say it. And to be honest with myself, I probably was too immature to hear it at the time.
In the end he said that the situation sucks. But as he hears it he's also kind of happy for me. Because I can finally focus on myself again, live for myself. I can finally stop burning up. We're going to hang more often again now that I have more time.
It felt good. Having a friend that's there for you. That understands and doesn't judge. I hate that I let my wife dictate so much about our life. I don't have many friends, but I do have deep relationships with the few I have.
I don't know if anybody reads this that's still in a relationship. But the saying bro's before hoes is true. There are many posts on social media about how your wife should be your priority before anything else. Don't! Take a good look at your relationships. The people that are there longer have been trough the ugly with you. Those are more important. Most women will leave when you break down. It's the modern marriage where they stay for the highs and bail on the lows.
