First off, I’d recommend that you attend Al-Anon meetings. They’ve helped me greatly.

We were in marriage counseling for a few years and that’s where I raised the topic as it felt like the best space in which to do it.

therapy would be a good start. other than that, the usual: gym, go out with friends, reconnect with old friends.

Consult with an experienced divorce lawyer first to see what is involved, what to expect, your options and how best to protect you in this process.

Assuming you have exhausted your efforts to get her to stop drink then once you have taken you precautions then have your attorney file and let service of the petition be her first notice.

Don't tell her, just speak to a lawyer. Prepare yourself ahead of time, get your finances in order, new email accounts and new bank accounts with paperless statements, take her name off your credit cards and vice versa. Ask your lawyer about taking half the money into your own accounts prior to filing, usually you can if you follow certain guidelines. File the divorce petition, tell you stbxw, let her know when she will be served.

As for telling her, I suggest you record the conversation, at least audio but preferably video. Be prepared to spend the evening away from your house. If she drinks then there's no telling what she will do or say in retaliation, but prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Once you make the decision you need to stick with it, no matter how much she begs, pleads, or promises.

And absolutely no sexual contact with her ever again.
