I truly feel there needs to be a change of law regarding maintenance and children. In a short term marriage without children maintenance needs to be capped by law. It is completely unfair I had my own home over 15 years prior to marriage, and married a woman for 6 years, we didn’t have any children. She grossed a total of $28k in 6 years working, and has already gotten almost double this in temp maintenance. She married me with one possession, the engagement ring I gave her, and is asking for half the value of my home, and 48 months of maintenance. Did I mention she also had a child with her AP during the divorce and has been cohabitating with him over a year?

There needs to be a cap in place by law, divorce settlement less than 10 years with no children need to be capped at the persons gross income and assets prior to marriage. Otherwise it’s total unjust enrichment.

Think of this, she has already received over eveey dollar she made during the marriage, so she couldn’t have possibly contributed more. She is essentially getting paid for being married to me. Also, I had to cover every last cent of expenses during the marriage for her, she got to live for free and actually profited off doing absolutely nothing, and it’s not over yet.

Who would think this is OK? There needs to be a law in place. Who would not support this law and why? If you have children, the law is moot for you. I don’t see how a law like this would be unfair to anyone and it would prevent people from marrying for profit.

Really what someone needs to do is make the argument that no-fault divorce is unconstitutional. There is scholarship on this point by a professor named Stephen Baskerville. He contends no-fault divorce violates all kinds of things - contracts clause, Fourth Amendment, constitutes an illegal taking, Fifth Amendment due process, etc. It is a very unusual system where a party can be legally punished - including being deprived of time with one's children! = without having to show fault.

Hate to break it to you but we’re on our own. Women don’t care about our struggles. Even men who have been through it don’t want you to have an easier road. Men who are oblivious to divorce court customs dgaf until they are in the crosshairs.

Another thing to implement - a mandatory enforceable prenup agreement. It's weird that the government is allowed to fleece you at the end (as they want). But won't do anything / won't care until then.

The only way to get courts to change is to put courts out of business by not getting married.
