They always want the attorney fees paid. That’s how to get more money from you.

I had it out in our settlement that we pay our own legal fees.

For maintenance that’s formula based so yeah, if you make more than her you will be paying it. It’s just a matter of how much and for how long. That said there are other ways to offset that, such as paying a lump sum at a discount rate or giving up other assets.

Or there may be something in the middle. My 2nd judge (Who had alzheimer's on the bench) awarded her 10k in fees and 11k more for prospective fees. He assumed her total lawyer fee would be 21k which I was judged to pay. 3 and a half years and 4 of her lawyers later and a total of 3 judges, I ended up paying g my lawyer over 100k. She didn't work and I was at about 150k per year.

She makes 30% of what I make and we were married for about 2.5 years. She earns more than 100K a year. Would that make me pay her attorney fee? I found some alimony calculators online for illinois that shows i’ll have to pay for 6 months based on length of marriage. It scares me and also the attorney part. I fear that my STBXW will keep stretching the case if I am the one paying attorney fee as she would want to rip money off me

They always do that, her lawyer has a template for filing and she just puts in the names, she wont get attorneys fee paid unless she's not working.

My wife's petition said CS lifetime alimony and covering her lawyer fees and she makes more then me and we were married for two years lol it's nonsense

Just say no. In family law you can ask for anything you want, doesn’t mean you’ll get it.

Unless you’re making $500k and she’s making $15k per year the likelihood of you having to cover her legal fees are next to zero. If you both earn the same amount of money the likelihood of you paying her maintenance is also zero.
