I made 10x my wife ($300k vs $30k). Married over 30 years, no kids. Everything split down the middle, including my future pension AND I pay $5k a month in Alimony.

Did you disclose your income as $450K or so? If yes, get ready to pay. In general disclosures for larger pay $ should involve only the non bonus or basic pay component. Never disclose what is in W2

Main question that determines alimony in most states is "Length of marriage."

You’re not being realistic about not paying any alimony. I mean there’s a chance if you’re way in debt. Alimony will depend on time married if you don’t have a prenup.

Attorney fee if she's working, she won't get in IL. Alimony is pretty straight forward, and so is CS in IL. All of these can be calculated online, it goes based on income and years together.

She making $150k attorneys fees not necessary. Should be able to shoot that one down quickly.

As for alimony you’re making almost $500k, yeah no way out of that one. You could try to grease the wheels and throw her a bone.

Just depends on how long you’ve been married. About to find out that everyone on earth wants you to pay alimony.

I would handle this like you’re trying to make a big sale at work. Client doesn’t care you need to hit quota by q4 or whatever, you have to find out what the client really truly desires and leverage it. For example, she wants to win the divorce and make you miserable. Put on a show and act like she’s getting what she wants.

You’re making too much dough, everyone wants a piece of you. Use the same skill and grace that got you that fat income to get out of this jam. Think outside the box and keep your job.
