Whats the difference between an esp and a mediator? My stbxw lawyer is a piece of shit feeding her so many lies and fantasies about what she can get in alimony, but she makes $20/hr more than me but refuses to go to work more than like 10hr a week

ESP is useless. My lawyer didn’t prepare at all - initially thought she was incompetent but in hindsight - it didn’t matter. My ESP was given by two junior lawyer volunteers who gave generic recommendations and suggested income imputation for ex about $25k below where it was finalized. I actually believe my lawyer and ex’s lawyer had the ESP recommendation be deliberately vague when it came to alimony amount/duration so neither party anchored - which is good lawyering.

What were your ESP recommendations? If your lawyer is using ESP recommendations- I’d be a bit skeptical bc I don’t believe ESPs are not taken seriously in NJ. The second lawyer I consulted while in mediation asked if the ESP had actual numbers. His response was “good” when I said no which makes me believe any good lawyer is asking the ESP panel behind the scenes to not give actual numbers.

The real negotiation came in mediation with an ex-Judge. We didn’t even remember the ESP recommendations by that time - our mediator/ex-Judge looked over everything in more detail and went from there.
