Paternity test?

I've had all three of my children tested. They are mine, but there was a good chance they weren't . Paternity testing should be mandatory for all children in every state, whether the parents are married or not. According to the statistics, 30% of the children tested are found to have a different father.

Get the test done. You need to protect yourself financially and legally. If the kid isn't yours, you can still treat the child as yours. Knowing the truth doesn't mean it has to affect how we are.

How old is the child? I had it done on my 4 year old. Its just a cheek swab and it is in no way invasive.

I cant help you with the emotional and legal part as I never had to cross that bridge. I knew my kid was mine, but I "had to know" too. I did this after my divorce was complete, and I contemplated telling my ex I had it done. I just wanted her to know how much trust and love she destroyed in me.

In the end, I never did tell her.

Absolutely get the testing done, no matter the consequences, is my opinion. I did it secretly, so there were no courts involved. If the child was not mine, I would have filed to court for a recognized test that is acceptable by the courts (chain of custody requirements).

When I caught my ex cheating my kid was 2. I was on the hook for 16 years CS no matter what (wa state 18 months cutoff). Kid looks like me. I didn’t get the test for 2 reasons: I saw very little upside and I didn’t want either of our DNA in the database.

In the end it made no difference to me and I sleep like a baby. If the test result could have got me out of CS, I would’ve thought a lot harder about getting it.

As it is, my kid has 2 parents who love her plus their extended families and that is good enough for me.

I have no legal answer, but if I may I'd like to submit a psychological consideration.

Figuring out the child isn't yours is one Pandora's box.

Figuring out he or she is yours is another.

Before running the test, look at he second possibility as well, so that you are not caught off guard should it be the case.

That said, knowing things is better than not knowing things.

Check your state, if you are able to eliminate your child support (in texas you can) then ask for paternity test via courts. In most states you can remove yourself from birth certificate till 90 days or birth but not later. CHECK YOUR STATE LAWS.

Otherwise just ask for half custody, if they are not your kids, asking for paternity test can hamper your chances for equal custody.

When you have half custody you can do a paternity test on your own. But even then you can wait till they are 18 for your mental health.

It's generally cheaper to get custody then to pay child support. More money the better for you.

Remember, its easier to give up custody down the line then to try to take it back.

so basically, If you can get yourself removed from birth certificate and eliminate your child support, then go for it, if not then just get custody.

If that's not the case and If the kids are not yours then get half custody, and remove them from your will or even abandon them when they are 18 but not now. It may seem cold hearted but remember, it's their mothers fault for being a lying cheater

If you have a doubt you need to get it done to lay the topic to rest. Go with papaDNA or another home testing service to minimize the stress.
