I'm staying married for the kids for now, 6 years to go. I know its controversial so let's just assume that's the best option, please. I truly believe it's the best for my specific situation. We've been to counseling many times over many years. We're getting by but it ain't gonna work out.

We get along fine enough now but when it comes, I expect the divorce to be bad. She will want everything.

We both started with very little and now make similar (upper middle class) salaries so there won't be an alimony issue. There is the issue of retirement funds though; she has much more invested in her name.

There hasn't been any infidelity and nothing illegal or crazy to bring up in court. We have fought but they've all been relatively mild, no violence.

Would a judge just split our assets (and debts) down the middle in this case? Are there things I should start doing now to prepare? Do need to start separating accounts or just keep it all together for now?
