I didn't get screwed with alimony. But, I know there's no such thing as retroactive child support. They can't retroactively collect something that was never ordered to begin with. Could be the same with spousal support.

In the middle of rhe BS no kids. STBX had hearing in June and was awarded temporary spousal support. I might get a small credit of that at final settlement towards spousal support. You can try to lock in spousal support payment but NOT likely, every few years can except a cost of living increase when she petitions the court. You can always offer a full buy out, and if she takes it your done.

In my cause we have to sell the house and I'm offering an unequal distribution in lieu of alimony as a one time lump sum. Only married 12 years, do if I pay her off now, no entanglements going forward.

Are you and your wife still living in the same residence? If so, why does she need support if you're already paying for the essentials?

You can get rid of permanent spousal support by instead offering her a lump sum amount instead. Typically the lump sum amount would be a percentage of what she would get long term, about 60%.

They can always bring you back to the court for more money even the judge signed the decree! I have a locked in 30 months on the final decree, no interim or nothing since my lawyer won’t let that happen.
