I know a lot of dudes whose passports were yanked for failing to pay child support - not sure this applies to spousal support, haven't seen it. But any income generated in the U.S. (or assets located there), such as your pension, would be subject to being garnished (or seized). There are some complications and at some point, you may wish to go back. Anyway, if you're not just venting, I'm happy to answer questions.

There is no legal way to do this. What you would have to do is cash out everything, then leave the US, get residency (ideally a work visa) and plan to never return to the USA. Any money in (most banks) can be pulled by the government, and most nations will not let you stay legally forever. So you need to really research your options, plan and VISA issues prior to trying this.

Some nations you can renew your VISA if you leave the country, but many require you to return to your country of origin (which would not work for what you are planning).

Real world, you are neither smarter or more powerful then the government or the courts. The system DOES NOT care if you stop working, they will imput you to what they feel you can / should make. You could get your job, get fired, the factory could burn down, the courts DO NOT care; you still owe. You have to go back to court to modify you agreement, and they will normally tell you to find a new job.

Option 1 - doesn't work. The court will imput you to your previous income or some income that they think you are capable of earning

Option 2 - Only works if your new employer is willing to play along. You ultimately would need a work VISA and a path to residency. This could work in the long run, but in the short term, would still have to pay to get that setup. Even then double check everything. Because you will NOT be able to return to the USA or use most banks.

Option 3 - The most realistic. Ideally support has a time limit on it (varies wildly from state to state, here in WA for short marriages < 5 yrs normally nothing; for mid-length 5-25yrs she gets 1yr support for every 3-4 years of marriage; long term marriage - anything goes including the possibility of life long support). Some states the amount of support also decreases every year. so waiting it out is best. If you retire early (before final payment is due) you can go back to court to ask for reduction (including elimination) of support. But it's up to the court.

Real world II - your plan really only works if you go off grid. That's not as hard as you think, but it means giving up a lot of things. If you have the cash, NP can bounce easily. Get a citizenship by investment VISA from a Caribbean island (~$100k), don't come back to the USA, and use a small local bank.

Shit I’m in the same boat! I’m in the USA though. Marriage laws and alimony is such fucking bullshit. It’s insane.

From my research this is the best way to do it. Either invest in a country where you “buy” citizenship probably the fastest way to get citizenship or move to a country where if you live there a few years they give you citizenship. You most likely will still want to pay CS if you have that. Once you gain citizenship somewhere else then fuck that bitch because you don’t have to pay her shit anymore.

I’m personally looking into Canada or some European countries.

There's this thing called imputed income which is used to prevent exactly this type of thing.

Even if you lose your job legitimately and can't find a new one the court will still impose that on you.

Moving to a new legal jurisdiction may allow you to effectively avoid paying though. Sometimes crossing territories within the same country will get you a little bit of a break as well.

To be clear you will be breaking the law though. A traffic stop might even alert the police that you have an arrest warrant in a different territory.

If you want to burn some money so she can't get her hands on it, the national coalition for men takes donations and they're trying to fix these laws. It is after all an issue of gender equality: you are being institutionally discriminated against because of your gender. It's messed up but that's just the world we live in.

If you sell your home and keep proceeds in an account opened in your home country she can likely get access to it enough to garnish from it.
