Child support in texas is a lucrative business. It pays for 80% of the OAG's office, family court bailiffs and contributes to the Judicial Retirement funds. Read that last one twice. Even with 50/50, you can ask for an offset child support calculation vs the state guidelines. Both parents must agree. The attorneys will advise against it as they don't want judges to hold it against them for future cases. 93% of non custodial parents in texas are fathers because father will always pay and its easier than chasing mothers to pay. The state doesn't want mothers on welfare nor be responsible for the children. Hence why child support is such a contested issue in Texas.

I got 50/50 but still pay max child support for 2 kids. Had the kids 70% of the time last year. Tried to modify child support, got accused of alienation and the judge reduced my parenting time to less than 4 hours per month as punishment till end of October. That ensured that I never bring up CS again and just keep paying it.

Try to negotiate an offset payment during mediation. If not, then just take the state CS guideline and standard possession (47% parenting time). Over time you'll resent your ex with making such a hefty payment for 50/50.

I can't speak for texas but go with the standard. For instance I will owe 1700 a month but they can attempt to argue up to 45 percent (Washington). That would mean I would be paying 3600 at the discretion of the judge. I am choosing to go in and offer fair according to the calculator and worksheet. Alimony is a bit more complicated and is at their request and judge discretion.

Texas does not give alimony and pretty much honors any type prenup and postnup for asset division. Unfortunately custody is mostly given to mothers and the CS is most brutal at flat 10% for each kid. I do think there are ways around this, you should negotiate directly with STBX and let her know that you plan to quit your job and reduce CS to 0 if she does not agree to lower.

Do you need to pay that much? Probably not. Will you be required to? most likely. In Texas the mom is the custodial parent 92% of the time. And the custodial parent gets paid guideline child support regardless of each person's income. Good Luck.
