My STBX (39) of 12 years and I (40) are going through an amicable divorce. Mostly because of my anger management issues and generally being a difficult person to spend time with. The best way to describe me is: Good in small doses. She and my family have hinted at it before, but the divorce really brought the issues to light.

Now as I look to post-divorce life, I'm worried. I'm a shitty person once you get to know me, and frankly I hate myself a lot of the time. It'd be fine if it was just me, but we've got a younger daughter (5) that I'll have joint custody of. She's the most important thing in the world to me. I'm legit terrified of the day that she also realizes what a terrible person I am, what a bad husband I was to her mother, and possibly what a bad dad I've been.

I'm not looking for a pity party. It is what is, I am what I am. Just wondering if any of you guys dealt with being the same way, and how you've done it. Being a better dad than you were a husband (assuming again the divorce was more caused by you than the ex), getting back into the dating scene, etc.

Edit: thank you gents, I needed to read all of this, over and over.
