I had the marital bed after moving out. It was a sleigh bed my mother bought with the matching set when I was 16 that followed me the last 17 years. I owned this bedroom furniture more than half my life.

It's in decent shape, but I hated what it came to represent. So as I started furnishing with the kids room first, then the living and dining, finally made my way (10 month separation) to doing my bedroom.

Bought a Drommen CB2 Queen Bed that is absolutely sexy and so happy I bought it. Ex filed on September 16th, the bed was delivered Oct 13th, and judge signed the paperwork on the 22nd.

It was worth it after everything I tried to do to save the marriage and work on myself.

If there's something you've been holding off on AND within budget, it doesn't hurt to splurge on something for yourself IMO. No buyers remorse whatsoever.

my divorce present came by itself, i didn't expect being so happy living alone, (BY MY OWN RULES for everyone that doesn't understand). i live alone now and its the best present i could ask for! :)

Present, no. But the night my divorce was final I smoked a cigar a good friend ad given me years ago. I was saving it for a celebration for when I landed a good job or something. That day I was making 40k a year. Paying 925 a month in child support. Broke from rebuilding a new life, legal fees, court and everything else. I had to sell my truck and buy my brother VW Jetta. I was a shell of what I saw myself as. But I was happy. I was content. I had hope. Everything I had built and accomplished in my marriage had only really happened in the last 2-3 years. (Married high school sweetheart and had no college education and no money). So we survived best we could for the first 10 years. In the last 2 years we bought a house, took a vacation, bought a truck. Dumb material stuff but I was gaining traction. Just handcuffed to a roommate and not a wife.

So on the night of my divorce money had little meaning because I had been hemorrhaging it for 6 months. You become numb. But I’m a good way because it didn’t wind me up anymore. How much to make this problem go away.

I made it. And I was starting over. A new beginning that happy people fantasize let alone someone unhappy.

I smoked a Cohiba behike (cuban cigar that cost around $100) and a couple pours of Macallan 18. I was dirt poor, but I had an amazing friend that hooked me up and I was living like a king

I tried. My divorce was ~5 years ago, when many upcoming artists were selling custom audio tracks to people. So I paid several hundred to an upcoming band that I had found in the UK for a "Celebratory Song," they never delivered, nor did I ever get my money back. Now that band is signed to a major label, and at this point it is a bit past the desirability of getting said track.

I’ve yet to finalize but at the pace it’s going it’ll be a moment to treat myself to a divorce present. It’s a hell of a decision but the outcome is that much better.

The interim just sucks. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I bought a guitar, went to see a buddy on the literal other side of the country, and my credit score skyrocketed once I paid off the little amount of debt I had (spoiler: she holds a shit ton right now - good luck with that).
