This is a somewhat-rhetorical question, since I know what the legal answer is: the law requires it. But still, I'd really like to see some level-headed and logic-based answers here. I'm asking partially out of anger right now, and partially out of genuine curiosity.

Why should I have to pay my STBX $1000 a month to only see my daughter 2 days a week for the next 13 years of her life? I'm not sure who these laws are for, but I *want* to see my kid, and if it were up to me I'd have her every single day and I wouldn't need or ask for a red cent from her mother. But somehow the court seems to think that I should be punished for this divorce not only by denying me time with my daughter, but also by making me PAY for that privilege.

I would have pushed for sole (or at least primary) custody of my daughter if I wasn't so sure that her mother would have gone nuclear and try to turn the whole thing into a legal and financial nightmare. So now I'm wondering: if one parent wants custody of the child(ren) bad enough to battle it out in courts, then why not let that parent pay for that custody themselves? Why demand that the losing parent pay for losing???

Sorry for the rant and possibly stupid question.
