my suspicion is that this could happen in most any country at this point, as the notion of a woman raping a man is just not yet well accepted.

my suspicion is that younger boys get raped by older women quite often, and that the norm is still to blame the boy regardless as to if the blame is bout rape or not, e.g. 'he's responsible for the sex, not her.'

Now, devils advocate, it could be a genuine case where the boy was the aggressor (even with age difference he could have been stronger or used a weapon/drugs). Unless I’m blind, the article doesn’t specify how exactly it happened.

But yeah, it could also just be as it looks with the 17 year old being the aggressor.

Unfortunately, a lot of, maybe even most, rapes on minors are done by other minors.

A twelve years old child isn't a 5 year child.

A twelve years old child may have the physical strength to overpower older minors, or even adults. Especially women and girls.

He may even have the intellectual capacity of tricking them.

Maybe it was his babysitter, they were playing jumping rope and he managed to tie her hands and legs. She might also have thought that twelve old isn't capable of rape and he was just roleplaying as a kidnapper.

And I'm sorry but at twelve years old also know about drugs. Even if dealers won't approach children (and they actually will. Recruit them sometimes), he may have used sleeping pills from a regular pharmacist.

Yes, I agree that the presumption of innocence is very important, but that applies to the 17 years old too.
