Social alienation, a never ending torrent of wanna-be pathologist crap, almost every support route dominated by ABA cultists and their incessant infantilization, difficulty in social settings (particularly dating)… it’s not hard to see why high-functioning autistic men and young men would find comfort in some variety of that script flipping. RP is pre-packaged and offers an order to things to boot; it re-packages a need for stability inside the frustrations common to young adult aspies in ways other genres of hate movements are seldom able to.

I was just thinking about this the other day. Yesterday I took the RAADS-R, a screening tool for autism. Some of the questions pertained to whether or not a person had ever searched for ways to behave to look normal, if they were considered a loner and if they found socialization a mystery. I was reflecting on that and thinking. Assuming these things are true of autistic individuals if one of these individuals (likely undiagnosed) has gone online searching for information pertaining to socialization they could very easily find the red pill nonsense. I’m not a guy so my experience is a bit different but that was me when I was younger. I found some strange “alpha” videos online and I was suspicious but also intrigued. It did capture my interest for a while but fortunately for me I moved on from it somewhat easily compared to others.

I think trying to get accurate polling data from the Redpill community and orbiting communities is a lost-cause. There is almost no way to figure out if results are being gamed for an agenda. If the behavior of the typical redpill obsessive is any indicator... we're talking about people who routinely make multiple accounts just so they can pose questions to the relationship subs pretending to be women with some kind of issue or another. (As a mod on a large gender/relationship sub a number of years ago, I had to deal with these clowns constantly and it was very easy to spot with mod tools.)

All that said, I don't think we need a poll to determine that yes, people with mental health conditions or syndromes in general are going to be very easily swayed by TRP's "factual" appearance with it's form of guides and manuals. For someone having a hard time figuring out social cues, intimacy, emotional nuance and complexity... having a "system" that organizes everything about relationships in what looks like a set of step-by-step instructions and promises to save you from being "betrayed" will seem massively appealing. Most of the incel/TRP kids I've talked to over the years admitted at some point they were on the spectrum.

I've been tested a lot and am borderline, so I really have some empathy and understanding here, this isn't to disparage the boys who have these kinds of conditions, if anything I think this should make us even more repelled by the grifters who are deliberately taking advantage of vulnerable people and peddling absolute horseshit that will leave this guys more lonely and confused than they would have been otherwise.

As a mom of several autistic kiddos, I can see how they’d be vulnerable to TRP. For all of my autistic kiddos, the way we deal with unfamiliar social situations is with scripting. We talk through a scenario and maybe role play it, giving the kid ideas about what to say in these social settings.

And that’s great! We teach them scripts for peer relationships, educational relationships, relationships with members of the community, and friendships. But who’s teaching scripts for romance?

So we (and by “we” here, I mean parents, teachers, and anyone who works with autistic kids) have taught these kids their entire lives to seek out scripts for unfamiliar social situations. We’ve taught them that if you’re not getting the results you want, you need to find a new script. And then we don’t teach them any scripting for how to obtain a romantic and/or sexual partner, despite the fact that romantic/sexual pairing is one of the strongest drives they’re gonna have as teens and young adults.

Are we really surprised when they latch on to a source of scripts that they find that actually fills the gaps? So much of TRP is really scripting - the way they use dog-whistles and reference other concepts within the same limited worldview helps to cement the scripts into your head, and the scripts cover romantic/sexual rejection, social awkwardness, feelings of inadequacy, and a lot more.

If we’re going to help provide scripting for neurodivergent people (which isn’t a bad idea), we need to be willing to offer scripts for things like sex and expressing uncomfortable feelings, too.
