I’ll add that it’s generally about lifting your partner up, not putting them down because you admire the person that they are and you want them to thrive in life. Respect helps the relationship feel stable and safe because without respect it’s hard to build trust. It’s easier to trust someone when you feel respected by them because it helps us understand that our partner has our best interest at heart and isn’t viewing the relationship selfishly.

I think it's pretty simple. It's not something magical or a drastic behavioral change.

Respect is treating your partner with human decency. It's listening to your partner and helping when there is a grievance and working together to solve them. Its understanding that they are a person and have needs and wants.

I think the first thing people need for respect is to simply just actively listen with an open mind. I think this alone would fix a lot of problems.

It should be both ways too. That men should be with partners who respect them in return. There are individuals of both genders who seem to think that the only way to keep a happy home, is by way of manipulation.

From my personal experience, it was my horrible mother who often showed my father disrespect. Mind you, this is also the same woman who admitted to her children, that she is togehter only with my dad because of his look and his profession. I know that my mom's love for my dad is really shallow.

Not respecting my dad's time. She always took too long when she did not need to. Purposelly started to prepare when it was already near time to go. There were many engagements where our family came late and my father was forced to lie (traffic was bad, he got lost in the way, etc).
aggresively taking food from his plate, especially the ones he liked. Not for being 'cute', but to challenge him and showed 'who wear pants'.
Sleeping terror. Not respecting the time my father wanting to rest. I saw my mom kept on shaking and waking my dad whenever he slowly fell asleep at night (he had to work, she did not). Even when he begged that he was sleepy and tired and needed to work tomorrow. My mother will just continue until she felt tired herself.

There are so many other examples of those. I know this is the opposite answers of what you are asking, but you can imagine that people who do not do that, people who do not -disrespect- your personal boundaries at every turn, those are the people who respect you and think highly of you.

Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries. When you get to know the 'real' one, enforcing boundaries will not make you feel guilty or any other negative emotion. Why? Because the other person will just happily accept that.
