Never give ultimatums about progressing your relationships. I know people who have done this and it’s never ever gone well for them. Think about how he would be treating his dream woman - would he be passively letting her make all the decisions and be content keeping her a 4ever girlfriend? No, he’d lock that shit down so quick and do whatever it takes to make her happy because he wants her. So if he’s not treating you like that, it’s time to move on.

She doesn’t seem to say what he said/did during these many conversations. She says she “thought we were on the same page” but what kind of things did he say? Did he hem and haw? Did he enthusiastically agree? Did he make vague statements about “someday” while throwing up all these roadblocks (ex I want to make more money first/we need a house first/not until my SoundCloud career takes off etc)?

I’m thinking this is a classic case of a woman getting clear signs that he is Not The One but she is so desperate, she’s only hearing what she wants. I bet you dollars to donuts he’s shown her, through actions or INactions, exactly what time it is.

This is truly a cautionary tale. You can never be afraid to cut him loose when it’s obvious he’s never going to give you what you want. Fear of age, scarcity and not fulfilling her familial dreams is keeping her chained to some foot-dragger and if she doesn’t honor her own ultimatum, she’s going to blink and it’ll be 10 years with nothing changed.

Take note of the huge red flag that is “we only moved in together because my lease was up.” I personally am in the “no cohabitation before engagement” camp, but regardless of your standard, it should be a deliberate decision that you both actively want, not something you fall into. That’s how you get trapped in a relationship for the sake of the lease/rent.
