This is super weird. How much time has the 4 year old spent doing makeup to get to that level? It's kind of creepy tbh.

One of my children at a young age wanted to wear makeup to “look pretty.” We talked a lot about what “pretty” meant and I emphasized over and over that she was beautiful inside and out without adornment. She still wanted to do it...maybe like once every other month. We also leaned a lot into having fun doing face paint instead of makeup and that is even more fun for a little one.

So yea, I have played makeup and dress up with my child. But, do we do it on a regular basis? No. Do I encourage her to wear makeup? Absolutely not.

Yeah, she's basically being conditioned to be used/exploited by the patriarchy.

Young girls are pressured into being women, while women are pressured into staying young girls. Think about it. We can't win. We can never just be a child, or an elder. We're either "ripe" or "used up".

If the kid is exploring get mom's closet or playing around with make up, that's fine. But if the mom is forcing/coercing/using the child's interest to promote herself and her life, then it's no different from human trafficking.

My 6 yo nieces love make up and clothes. My sister and I talk about where they would have picked it up because neither of us wear make up or are into fashion? So my sister does let them play with make up and always tells them they did a great job applying it, but they never get to wear it publicly, it’s just a part of playing dress up.

I will say though, it is adorable watching them (they are identical twins) pick out outfits for each other while telling one another how cute they are in each outfit.

So fucking sad.

At just FOUR years old, that little girl is already assimilating that:

Women have to be pretty
Being pretty gets you approval
A woman's worth depends on her appearance
Makeup makes you pretty
It's natural for women to wear makeup

And what's worse, she's going to grow up thinking that wearing makeup and sexualising herself is empowering...

When the fuck are we doing to stop perpetuating the idea of "being pretty", wasting time and money chasing unattainable ideals, and start focusing on what matters?

Children want to be their parents. If you watch mommy spend hours on her makeup, you’ll want to try it.

Honestly, it’s part of why I’m so anti-makeup. I really hate the pressure on women and girls to be “pretty”
