He apologized more to clear his own conscience than to help her. As someone who was assaulted when I was 18 (and the guy never apologized more than "I'm sorry, but it was your fault") I really don't give a shit about a "true apology" and I know that would not long term make things better. The right thing for an assaulter to do in this case would be to stay the fuck out of the victim's life forever and let them heal and move on by themselves. I know I'm glad my assaulter is afraid of me and blocked me on FB.

I don't want to sound like I'm shaming her if her "forgiving" him is what she feels like she needs to do to emotionally move on from it, but she's giving him too much credit, and this is contributing to a cultural narrative about toxic forgiveness. WE ARE NOT REQUIRED TO FORGIVE ASSAULTERS/ABUSERS EVER!!!!!

Notice how bullies, abusers and rapists etc always work as counsilers or something that should be "helping" the victims of the same thing they did do their victim? Why the fuck is a man a victim advocate? Maybe for other males but it sounds like he's been hearing female perspectives. He shouldn't be anywhere near female survivors of sexual assault in that role and SHAME on that state government if that's the case.

This is why I think women should ideally wait until they leave high school to date/ have sex.

Teenage boys are some of the worst when it comes to pushing boundaries, doing porn shit and not “knowing” how consent works.

Not to mention teen girls are young and vulnerable and often blame themselves or think it’s normal.

I am glad that he changed and protect victims. It’s a long way from that messed up teen to decent person. Also a 16 year boy is pressed by his peers to have sex yearly. In my country it’s still this socialisation for boys to lose virginity yearly and have tons of sex when girls staying virgins and being very hard going. Slut-shaming and praise for macho behavior.
