Lots of western men will tell you something like "hey babe it's just in our nature to want to hook up with as many women as possible." That's a lie. In societies where men outnumber women, men want commitment. I'm not suggesting we all just move to China, but I'm so fucking sick of this line where we're supposed to just accept men's bIoLoGicAl nEeD to just fuck everything that moves. It's a lie. Don't buy into it or the lib fem logic that tells you you need to "date like a man" or whatever bullshit.

Eh, this doesn't change my mind to be honest. This still looks like an act of entitlement and jealously than a desire for love and commitment.

The article specifically states that men want commitment when women are in short supply. Yeah. Figures. When there's less women then there are men, every man is now your competition, so of course you're going to want to lock your woman down so she doesn't stray to the thousands of other options she has available. When there's less women to men, they go on defense. If it were the opposite, I'm sure these men wouldn't be feigning for commitment.

In some societies, humans believed that the offspring is the son/daughter of all the men the woman slept with. The height of one, the running trait of the second and the muscles of the third).

So....women BIOLOGICALLY NEED to check out (preferably naked) men ALL THE TIME. And fuck as many of them, too.

But we don’t do that. Do you know why? Because thousands years of patriarchy led us to know that if we followed this primary instinct we will be dead by dinner.

I never bought that humans are biologically wired for polygyny (one male with multiple female mates). Species that do that, like horses and lions, are actually more polygamist (males and females both having multiple mates) upon closer inspection. They also tend to cast out excess males with those outcast males forming male-only troupes (though sometimes they go solo) with the individual males looking for opportunities to win over a female here and there or looking to kill/cast out an established male and to get taken in as a suitable replacement by the females to whom that male belonged.

Human cultures typically do not reflect male ousting behaviors that would naturally accompany polygyny. Our sons have typically been welcomed and cherished by both fathers and mothers. Human fathers do not typically see their sons as sexual competition. In species where the male actually is wired to try to obtain multiple partners, it's often the father himself who ousts his sons. When we do see excess male ousting in humans it's under artificial, cultist conditions like the lost boys in Mormon fundamentalism). Fundamentalist Mormonism stands out as particularly fucking weird to most people because of their polygyny and because of what they do to their sons to maintain their polygynist tradition, but this is how human nature would actually play out if our males really were wired for polygyny. Fathers would be kicking their own sons out of their communities.

Also, our entire viewpoint when it comes to "harem" species is so skewed because of the way early (male) scientists chose to interpret their social structures. In animals like lions it's commonly incorrectly accepted that the male is "in charge" of the pride, that he calls the shots and that he gathers females together as some sort of harem for his pleasure and that the females serve him. In actuality, the core of a pride is comprised of related females, their offspring, and the non-son males (yes, plural) they keep to reproduce with. The females are keeping males as breeding stock and extra muscle. They keep more than one male so that daughters don't have to reproduce with fathers and the pride can maintain genetic diversity. For that same reason male cubs are kicked out when they reach maturity because they aren't useful breeding stock, seeing as they're related to all the females. Also, a female does not only mate with one male, she'll mate with multiple so the litter often contain half siblings and the males can't be sure which offspring is theirs and which isn't, so they're protective towards all of them.

It was also commonly accepted that females hunted for their male, like he was some king being waited on hand in foot. In actuality, it's just that males typically don't participate in the family hunting and do their own solo hunting instead, targeting smaller prey rather than the large prey the mothers/daughters/sisters/aunts/cousins cooperate to take down. Males also aren't guarding territory and fending off encroaching strange males by themselves, the females do that too! Females resist would-be usurpers, they attack strange males and defend their cubs from them. Strange males can work their way into a pride but it's heavily resisted and actually is one of those examples of survival of the fittest. If a male can kill/oust another male and successfully fend off the hostile females to take his place then he's arguably pretty strong and would make good breeding stock. And this way the females get some fresh blood in that's proven hardy.

So you can see that the whole theory of human males as supposedly polygynist in nature is a flawed supposition without any basis in human behavioral/cultural reality and that even our common understanding of polygamist species has been criminally misconstrued to falsely insinuate polygyny.
