Be especially mindful of "but faaaamily" obligational guilt, and "tradiiiitions" this holiday season. People who want you to continue being the doormat, scapegoat, family punching bag, cool girlfriend or mommy-wife who can 'do it all' are not going to like your new boundaries and standards.

If they need to make you feel something negative, the request is for their benefit, not yours. They're not actually asking if you want to.

"No" and "I don't want to" should end the conversation. That's not an invitation for negotiation. There's nothing romantic, sweet, or fun about doing something you were forced/coned/coerced into.

Before meeting a woman who changed my life (she was a natural FDSer since she was a child) - I used to think my go with the flow was a positive trait but it was something men prayed on in order to get what they wanted. It was "fun" for them to get their way.

I have since then learned to say no, and if pushed, I've literally walked away from conversations. I lost some friends in my early 20s (mostly men and a couple pickmes), but I rebuilt my network with people (mostly women) who respect me.
