Omg did I see this a lot as a military brat growing up. The soldiers with personality issues who couldn't draw their own had to find a connection with a woman who barely understood him because he was a shit communicator to begin with. Even some of my friends who I grew up with on base who came from said households would point this out/reflect on it. We would see the prostitutes off base throw themselves at GIs. Then, as soon as the wives were married ten years, it was mass exodus from the marriages and payout larger for them. This was largely the case, not a blanket statement, though. I also did see loving relationships where military servicemen would learn their wife's first language and help them learn English. I am still friends with these few outliers. I love you Miyuki and Ken.

An aside* I'm sorry, but if you cannot learn at least a few key phrases in your significant other's primary language, you are an unloving asshole, no matter the gender.
