How do you answer "why are you single?"

I think the best answer is, “By choice. How about you?” They don’t need to know your ex cheated or you dumped a guy who had a porn addiction or your last relationship just didn’t pan out. Whatever it is, you’re single for a LOT of reasons, and so are they.

"Because I'm not with someone? I'm not sure I understand the question." And then just stare at them. This not only belittles the question, but most people will feel prompted to say something to fill the silent void. It well cause them to explain their motive of why their asking. Generally it's followed by backpedaling, "I meant, like, did you just get it off a relationship?" Or "You sound to good to be true..." Whatever. At that point just mention, "I guess it's because I have standards." And walk away. Bitchy? Yes. Rude? Also, yes - but so is this question to start with.
