I’m 29 and one of my biggest goals is to become the first woman in my family to get a PhD. No one gets a PhD just for the hell of it, you pursue it because you really love what you’re doing that much. This guy could not wrap his head around that.

What makes this extra funny is the whole reason we met was because of my research. He was trying to show off by bragging about being multilingual. I could tell he was from the region I research and I named every language I thought he might speak. I was exactly on the money and he was so impressed he began to think I was clearly sent to him during Ramadan to be his wife. What a MESS.

He would say I only wanted a PhD to be greedy, that people want the next best thing and they’re never satisfied. Like... bro. Maybe I just want to do research but not pay for it, have you considered that? Did he really think that all my effort was part of “god’s” plan to impress him? SIKE.

The nail in the coffin is I hit up my girls in the region and they all told me to RUN. They said all the former Soviet Muslim men can be nuts, but his country is known for being even more radical. She was begging me not to meet him. Had this been 4 years ago I would have given him a shot in person thinking I was being too hard on him or not understanding. Fuck. That. He wasn’t trying to get to know me, he was interrogating me to see if I was going to be his wife lmao.
