I've been using a couple online dating apps and I'm not sure how to interpret conversations with people when they first message me.

So far I don't message anyone first, and I put the same amount of effort into responses as I'm getting from the matches. Like "hi." gets them a "hi" back and if the next message is lame I just unmatch. When guys say "you're beautiful" I respond "I know" because to me it seems like a low-effort comment instead of someone genuinely trying to get to know me.

But how do I respond to people who say things like "do you want to meet up?" or "we should get together." Should I unmatch and move on or do the ambiguous meet-up asks have potential? Are men on OLD directly asking for dates, or are they more ambiguous requests?

One guy said "we should meet up thursday if you're free" so I responded "what do you want to do on thursday?"

I'm just not sure how to navigate the first few online interactions.
