If he refuses to give you a compliment, even if it's obvious that he finds you attractive (dilated eyes, beaming in public when he's with you) he's fucking with you.

If you ask, "How do I look?" They reply with monosyllabic answers, like "fine" or "ok." It's a mindfuck. They get an attractive woman to date them, then proceed to make her think she's the less attractive one because he wants her locked down and insecure. It's a totally real thing.

Damn I am shocked I didn’t read anyone mention Future Faking or False Futuring:

Future faking is when a person lies or promises something about your possible future in order to get what they want in the present. It could be as basic as promising that they will call you later, and then never calling.

I’ve noticed a lot of guys on OLD do this. They create a false sense of safety, intimacy, and closeness. You mention you love crab cakes? “Oh I know a great place for crab cakes, I’ll have to take you there.”
