I’m going on a first date with someone I’ve known through mutual friends for a while. I was surprised that the dinner spot he chose is a really high end restaurant. I told him that I would like to go on a proper date before considering anything romantic and that I only have sex in serious relationships. Should I be suspicious that he chose such an expensive restaurant when we’re both in our mid-twenties? I’m talking about $20 appetizers here and “the nice” crowd.

Maybe I come across more high maintenance than I thought? I do talk a lot about fancy things even if I can’t afford them, just because I know wealthy friends and go on nice business lunches... or maybe he’s just trying to “buy” me?
