We all know society encourages women to always be nice and docile at the expense of her own self. In Dr Aziz Gazipura's "Not Nice", he states that being nice is about not ruffling anyone's feathers and being like by everyone and giving freely. Supposedly in return people will treat you the same way. Newsflash: this shit does not work. This allows people to take advantage of you because they know you'll always be the mature nice girl. It's ok to say no. It's ok to put your own needs first. Those people who you are trying to please are not worrying about your own needs. I'm not advocating be nasty to everyone but to have clear boundaries. Save the unconditional niceness for your children and/or your pets.
