While I think this is nice in the context of the relationship, overall I think hiring a surrogate is not ethical. He’s accepted that his wife is scared of pregnancy and doesn’t want to go through it so his solution is paying someone who is so poor that she has to sell her body? It doesn’t make pregnancy less traumatic or dangerous to be paid for it. It’s still commodifying women’s bodies and treating them like objects.

eeeeh they had me until the surrogate. He's ok not risking his wife's body because he has no right to genetic children.

But he's ok using someone else as an incubator.

Either you respect all women or you respect none.

There are a couple million orphan and refugee children right now, go adopt.

I'm happy at how it worked out for their relationship, but paying another woman to potentially die so you can have a baby is still throughly unethical and uncool. If she really holds this stance she shouldn't want anyone to go through it on her behalf when there are plenty of already existing kids to give a better life to. I won't pretend that being a foster parent or adopting is without issue but I think it's really weird they emphasize not caring about a genetic link just to go ahead and presumably impregnate someone with their own genetic child?
