There doesn’t seem to be any way of approaching this topic without everyone freaking out and backing into a corner. But if there’s anywhere to have this discussion, I think r/MensLib is probably about as good as I’m gonna get; so here goes….
I’m really conflicted about porn. I’ve looked at it since I was in my teens, when smutty magazines where a thing and the internet barely was (Yeah. I’m old.)
For the longest time I didn’t really examine my relationship with porn. My tastes were (and are) pretty vanilla. I’ve never felt like porn interfered with my sex life. I’ve never had ED, compared my partner to what I’ve seen in porn, or demanded that we perform what I saw there.
But for the past year or two, I’ve looked at Pornhub et al; and it all just seems weird and alien. It’s gotten to the point where what’s on screen doesn’t even remotely resemble actual sex anymore. I had to delve into odd little corners of alt porn to find anything that felt even remotely familiar. Whenever I looked at mainstream porn, it felt like some kind of David Lynch-esque body horror. All I could think of was the women getting hurt making this shit, and how wrong the whole industry was.
So I quit watching. I can’t say much changed in my life, FWIW.
I see the anti-porn brigade freaking out about “The New Drug”; but they’re easy to write off as a bunch of pearl-clutching evangelicals and anti-sex radfem academics.
But I hear about young women getting hurt by their partners, young men with Porn-induced ED, and hear the way the young dudes I work with talk about porn, and I genuinely worry. Is porn just another wall we’ve built between us and our evolution?
For real – I don’t have an answer, but I’d love to hear what you lads have to say.
EDIT: As I look through the comments, I see a lot of dudes saying “it’s a bit of a problem, but not a big deal”, but a lot of women saying “it IS a big deal”.
Maybe we should reflect on that.

Women telling men porn is bad for 20 years. Men keep fapping because healthy and naturalle TM
Men : hey, porn might be bad. MEN PERK THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN 🤦♀️
Edit False alarm. They're still defending their precious, and porn-induced erectile dysfunction is fake news.

Have you ever tried to take a man's porn away? Even by simply saying it's wrong verbally? They are like an addict fighting you over the last loaded syringe on the planet.

Yeah, for being adamant it isn't an addiction, they sure act like addicts when you question their precious porn.

I got in a fight with a mutual friend on the way back from a concert about porn once. Never thought I’d be yelling at a guy about how porn harms women at 12am on the upper level of a train but there I was. And he was so defensive about it.

My advice? Next time save yourself the emotional trauma and just dump the pig the first chance you get with zero emotion at all. Can't argue with a dumb wall.

Couldn’t keep reading after the first 6 part essay vehemently defending PORN.
Like if it isn’t an addiction WHY ARE YOU SO OBSESSED WITH IT

Almost all of the comments are pro porn here though. Porn is fine, research shows no addiction/ED problems so it's all good! (research probably funded by the porn industry but who cares it means I can keep watching) Ignore how fucked up the industry is and how it harms women. Feminist men or MRAs, they will all defend porn.
They argue for amateur porn too, but a lot of that is posted without the woman's knowledge. There is plenty of "amateur" porn that is just studios making it look like that, or men that exploit prostituted women and post these without their knowledge too.
I'm so sick of this, they all make excuses so they can continue exploiting women.

for me its those porn videos where the woman has loads of cum stinging in her eye and they're piling on her like fucking hiyenas at feeding time..even the porn star is struggling to seem like she is 'enjoying' it, they look visibly distressed. Its glorifying abuse & what happens when we do that? I wonder...

There’s several comments there comparing it to action films in terms of being a harmful exaggeration of normal life/an escape. What a completely disingenuous comparison. Porn isn’t watched for entertainment, they are literally watching it as a stimulus for climax. It’s straightforward addiction conditioning with the tolerance and subsequent escalation involved in that.
The commenters making that comparison are either in total denial about their addiction and what it is doing to them or they know but can’t imagine a life without their precious porn. They are implicitly admitting to finding sex with real women mundane and unfulfilling thereby undermining their own argument in the course of making it. Idiots.
Regardless, it’s sad.

Ewwww, i browsed it and they all seem think "pornography is harmless, at least for watchers". Disgusting. When few of them are critical of it, their reasoning goes like that: "mainstream pornography is so weird nad dettached from how sex looks like, simulated incest creeps me out, women in pain make me uncomfortable, so i need to spend loooong time looking for alternative home made videos". Fuck them. They are no better than cumbrains. Lets hope that they get erectile dysfunction in near future.

It’s still pretty pro-porn, a long way to go. Fauxcest/incest trend seems to be the main thing that is acknowledged as “weird” but the harm it causes is not being acknowledged. Literally the first thing I think of now in regards to that is a murder case in the past 5 years where the guy killed his step daughter (not going to provide additional details or the name of the case due to lurkers that would love the details) and frequently watched daughter incest porn. And then the even more recent tinder date murder case I am sure we are all familiar with, while not related to that particular porn trend, had articles noting that the man was looking at porn after the woman died. There is another murder case just now being exposed for the amount of searches of her name on a porn site because apparently THOUSANDS of men wanted to check in case the murder was uploaded a video for them to masturbate to.
I am no stranger to porn and what searching up porn is like, I think a lot of men very much assume we just don’t understand it and have some kind of not being turned on by it to the point of masturbating brain. I have done the rounds with subconsciously getting over the more vanilla videos and seeking out weirder stuff and having to go kind of cold turkey on it because I didn’t like what was happening in what I subconsciously wanted to seek out. As of now I don’t watch it at all - the stance of FDS aside I just think even seeking out the amateur fully consenting porn involves too much scrolling past trash if you are trying to claim to be a moral porn watcher.

NOTE: This sub does NOT support the commercial porn industry, as it is an institution that promotes and normalizes sexual aggression, incest, pedophilia, violence, racism, degradation, low sexual satisfaction, and objectification of women and girls, many of whom have been drugged, raped, misled, trafficked and otherwise coerced to appear on film. That being said, we understand that although they are few and far between, porn can be produced in a way that emphasizes respect, consent, appreciation, and focused on the true sexual satisfaction of women. We encourage sub users who watch porn to use it responsibly.
