“The best gift you can give your children is their father” is a comment I came across on this sub once. I think about that whenever I’m dating and the dude starts exhibiting LVM behavior and I’m wondering if I should excuse it or not. Would I really want this man to potentially be the father of my children someday? We’ve gotta think long-term ladies, not just the attention from him we want in the moment. Will he be worth keeping in the long run?

Honestly, I'm tired of men being praised for basic shit like this. Nobody would be applaud this if it was posted by a mother. Literally all he did was attach some ropes on a beam. Feels like every day there's a post on the front page about some dad doing something extremely simple and being praised to obscene degree.

When the hell did standards get so low for fathers? At least back in the day no dad would've been bragging about doing crafts to their kids unless if it was building a treehouse or something else actually impressive.

This is honestly one of the only things I hate about being single—the fact that my daughter doesn’t get to have a stepdad like this, and she doesn’t get to see a man treat her mom with love and respect. She has her dad but we divorced when she was young, all he did was scream at and argue with me and now she says he just screams at and argues with his new wife.

When she was 5 until around 10-11, I was with a guy who was a pretty good stepdad, but he was garbage in every other aspect and an LVM. One of the reasons I didn’t leave him earlier was because they had a good relationship. I kinda feel bad for breaking that up, but it wasn’t healthy for me to stay with him.

Now that she’s 12, if I get remarried one day I feel like she’s too old to bond with a stepdad and that makes me sad. I’m seeing a guy now but it’s still too new and I don’t intend to let her meet any guy unless and until I’m engaged.
